Musings from BuKwanJangNim
Congratulations to BuSabum Joy, BuKyosa DK, and Seung Saes Alexia, Graham, Logan and Nathan! You all had outstanding tests and your new ranks are well-earned through diligent training, focus, application of feedback and personal growth. I am so proud of each of you!
Something about being on the crux of the New Year always has me thinking about fostering a deeper level of integration, knowledge and personal ownership of skills we use every day i.e. ‘contestant skills’, as well as new skills and past forms. Physical and mental growth do not only come with adding new skills and knowledge, but also with application, further confidence and deeper proficiency with past material and ‘constant’ skills. Red and brown belts I am going to stretch you to apply yourselves more in working with lower rank students to further all of your skills. No more waiting for a Black Belt to grab you as a partner, you need to reach out to students at the same or lower ranks. Black belts I am going to explicitly challenge you and reset the expectation that you maintain and deepen your proficiency with all forms lower than your current rank. Can I put you on the floor to model any form at any time? That is the goal.

Protocol Focus
Protocol this month is focused on holding ourselves to a high standard for communication within the Dojang and helping others to do the same. What does that mean? Using “Yes” and no other affirmative expressions, and keeping conversations focused on TKD during class time. Let’s raise our mindfulness so we grow not only in our physical skills, but in our mental discipline too.
Tuition
Tuition is due by Friday, December 20 for January training. Thank you for remembering the tuition total of $110.00 including tax and for being on time. There is a $10 late fee for tuition received after the 20th. If you are not a TRC member, please set up AutoPay through your bank – it is quick and easy to do! Please ask BuKwanJangNim Marie if you need more information.

History
What is a dojang? The dojang is a reflection of the collective dedication, sincerity, and humility of all the students. The dojang is your school. You should be proud of it and want to show it to your friends and relatives. After all, this is where you come to improve your life. A dojang is a place of education. The dojang is a source of wisdom for your everyday life. (Graeme Cox, Chayon-Ryu Martial Arts)
